Premise - style and technology

After my one to one with Alan, we talked about technology and what i feel comfortable with in terms of using Maya to create a simple a simple animation. These are the styles i was thinking of:

Texture style

Since i want the animation to have a feel of felt i found that these 2 animation that could help me see how to make the seem and look like felt with the creases, fuzz and seems of the characters and background.

Character style

although most of the animation will be in the view of the teddy, i realize that i would have to make a small character of myself with the teddy whilst everyone else would be limps or background planes. So i thought that this character style would be simple and clear for me and the teddy.

Technology style

i thought that these animations was a great choice technology wise, for there combined a mixture of 3D character yet details/basic backgrounds. For example in the Extinguished it has 3 3D characters and some modeled backgrounds whilst use infographs/2D animation to keep focus on the main characters. Whilst 'Here the plan' is all 3D but it is very basic shapes, some of the animation is a image sequence on the eyes and there are a few Map painting to help with the background.

Premise - research into the idea

after thinking on what Alan and the group suggested, i thought that the best way the go about this project is looking into how i was like as a child.

Disclaimer - the following stories are true

my mums stories:

The Pound - i had a habit falling into pounds weather they were hidden by moss or leaning over until i fall, the best she told me was when she was having a goodbye party at a old hospital she use to work at. during this time i was standing at a pound slowly leaning forward. No matter what my sister said i ended up in the pound and making a poor handy man throw his sandwich into a lavender bush to save me, whilst my sister went to tell my mum only to have her say "don't be silly maria, iv just told the girls that story about Laura falling in uncle Dave's pound ". shock to find me soaked and wet, we laugh about it now.

The Tantrum - i have a small leopard teddy since i was born, on the way to a operation i dropped him on the train tracks and started screaming the place down. However i was not the only one crying for my mum was crying with me thinking 'if she does not have this teddy during her operation, she'll be so sad'.  A nice man jumped onto the track and gave me the toy, after the operation the teddy was in a plaster cast same as me and to this day there a still little flakes of plaster on him.

migraine - on the way home from a holiday my mum and i were on the train and i was crying, moaning and wining to the point that my mum looked stress and tired.

rainforest cafe - when visiting the family in London, my mum warned my to be careful not to fall over or out of my seat for i had a habit of being accident prone. As my mum took her seat the chair broke sending her tumbling with the chair. what made this funny was the claim that the staff check the chairs everyday and make sure they are not broken.

chitty chitty bang bang -- this was my first musical in which i really into the show by singing alone to the songs and shouting out "COME ON YOU KIDS", the best part of this memory was i proved the theory of a mother is always right wrong, i knew that in the film real dog were running about in the sweet factory scene and was getting my hopes up in the musical, however my mum turned round and told me "dont be silly Laura, they would not use real dogs" only to find herself regretting that statement for at least 10 dog ran a cross the stage eating the sweets. To this day i never let her forget when she ever says she is always right.

tigers in the zoo - i love tiger and always have to the point where if my mum took me away from them i would scream at the top of my lungs until i was put back to see them, this was a problem for my mum for she had to deal with 3 - 5 year old wanting an actual tiger as pet on the way home. i was a pain.

lots of toys - i would always have a pile of toys in my arms for my mum to buy, as she was sensible in getting toys that are creative, i would get big and small toys. she said the most annoying thing i always did was as soon as she bought a new big toy for me and would only play with the smallest only like Polly pocket.

(before i continue, the reason it is mostly my mum and myself in these true stories is because my father hardly helped and he is something id rather forget in my life)

After asking what i was like as a child i feel these stories can be turned into funny scenarios as well as showing my deep connection with my mum. She gave me a helpful reminder that i loved watch the Disney animation show Recess, i will use this as a reference.

What is Needle felting

Needle felting is felted sculpture that is stabbed with the felting needle it pulls the wool into itself.  By stabbing the wool with the needle over and over while turning the wool it continues to pull wool in and the wool, with its tiny scales, locks together.  Continued stabbing and turning results in a firm round shape.  Once there is a basic shape to start with wool is added where it is needed to form a sculpture. like this:

Needle felting can be basic or complex depending on the detail you what to put into it, it can make beautiful sculpture like this

this is how i would like my animation to look like, as if it was made with felt.

Premise - how to make into an animation and influence maps (development)

i thought the best way to explain how i want to animation my London premise like the Carl and Ellie scene in up, show there married life together as shown below:

however with comical theme with me as a child and my mum worried and trying to make me happy and safe. I feel the go between a worried mother and a silly child would be funny showing not only the pain and concern of what i put my mum through but also what a strong bond she and i have. i will be juggling the theme between heartwarming and comedy.

Premise - research, ideas and proposal

Research  - Artist that inspire me or i like:

Ross Trans (RossDraws)

Josiah Alan Brooks (drawing with jazza)

Vivienne Medrano (Viziepop)

Sylvain Chomet

Daniel Arriaga

Anton Fadeev

Most of my hobbies consist of crafting and gaming, some my mum taught me others i grow to love and continue to do with my partner

 My hobbies:

  • Jewellery making
  • Felting
  • Cross stitching
  • Knitting
  • Tatting
  • Bead making
  • Resin work

My ideas so far for the premises project

  • A shot animation of how my partner and I love not only each other but the hobbies we do together
  • A 1890 or 1920 detective story on solving a gut wrenching murder
  • Parody of my favorite genre (anime, horror or comedy)
  • A musical within a production of a musical
  • Going back to when I was a child, how after an operation my mum would take me to the best places in London
  • An adoption of my favorite Greek myth
  • An archeologist in Egypt solving puzzles (like a video transcript)
  • Photos into my life from birth to now, talking about how it was like growing up with my disability and the effects it has not just me but my family.
Proposal 1 - A musical within a production of a musical

For this  idea i thought about what I love in the musical for myself I love the upbeat music that some musicals produce also enjoy seeing the costume designs of different characters weather is film based or not, I think that the writing on some musicals is absolutely amazing it coincides with the music very very beautifully. So my idea is to show the backstage of what everyone does and then by the end of the animation barrel out on the stage singing about how wonderful it is to be in the Broadway my idea of thinking this way comes from two videos first being the trailer from the Charlie and the chocolate factory musical which I recently saw in London. I would like the musical to have a similar feel of music style like in this video being upbeat and positive.

As well as a TV program named producing parker to help me understand what is like to create an animation on be involved with a production and behind the scenes

Proposal 2 - Going back to when I was a child, how after an operation my mum would take me to the best places in London

And is very personal to me before when I was just bored I had to go straight into operation Dr completely discretionary home and caused a problem called up for the word nerves in the shoulder I've tangled completely broken and so on and three of them in my shoulder tangled this led to a lot of health problems was growing up my mum had to take me to London in order to fix them and have operations, but she didn't want to just leave me with an operation and then go home she did something extremely sweet which was taken made it further into London so popular places that Hamleys, Big Ben, London dungeons, Madame Tussaud's and it would continue on to this day and make me love London and having good memories rather bad memories of it, so I thought I would do a sweet little animation of my mum taking me around London as it is a little girl but rather than just leaving it to 3-D model like to say Pixar anything about I thought maybe make the 3-D models as if they were made from felt to combine my recent love of felting that my partner got me into where if you have a big ball of felt you can use it to make  A little figurine of felt so the animation would probably look something like this:

Proposal 3 - Photos into my life from birth to now, talking about how it was like growing up with my disability and the effects it has not just me but my family.

So another personal idea I had was making a sort of like an interview with myself my mum my family about what it was like growing up with me with my own and how I would do this would be going to pictures of me as a baby up until now. I would like to make it like the opening inwards comic curse of the wearrabbit with my family talking about what it was like dealing with me,  I thought going into the subject might show how I'm like nowadays and give a further insight into my life and although it's sometimes very personal it's hard to talk about it it makes it easier for not just me to talk about it but I think other people to say that if you have a disability or is this something that you really are scared about talking about don't be afraid to it's something that  that happens in life but I get easier to talk about it and your feel so much better when you do.

Proposal 4 - A 1890 or 1920 detective story on solving a gut wrenching murder
This idea was inspired from the recent film murder on the orient express before then I was into comedies of murder mysteries like clue and  murder by death but recently I've gotten into murder mysteries like Miss Marple and  midsummer murders  so I thought maybe try and make it fun exhilarating like the Sherlock Holmes films but also make it quite serious and possibly drink it to an actual crime that happened just like the orient express I find that that type of writing and that type of atmosphere story is very interesting and  for me personally I always find it a great great feeling when watching these films, so i want to create an animation that is a parody of a murder mystery. i take inspirational from murder on the orient express and murder by death.
